Providing support and information to families of children with disabilities, chronic illness and other special health care needs

Parents who have children with disabilities, chronic illness or other special needs find out about their child’s condition in many different ways and at many different times.  However,  we all experience the same emotions, in varying degrees, to the news.  Shock, panic, denial, fear, guilt, sadness, depression, anger, anxiety – they are all there and they can vary from minute to minute or day to day.  No two parents experience them in the same way and there is no wrong or right way to respond.  Many parents feel isolated and overwhelmed.
Having a child with special needs sets us on a different journey than the one we expected when we found out we were going to have a child.  We had hopes and dreams for this child and for our family.  Now what?  The good news is that you have company on this journey and the experiences of other parents of children with special needs can be a source of strength, hope, direction and help to you.  You are not alone!  Let us help by connecting you to another parent of a child with similar disabilities or medical needs, or a similar concern to the one you might be facing.
Research has shown that an overwhelming majority of parents report that parent to parent support helps.  It can provide parents with the following:

  •  Someone to listen to them and understand
  •  Information about the disability, illness or special need
  •  Information about community resources
  • Information about caring for a child with special needs
  •  Help with referrals to other agencies
  •  Help with problem solving

If you would like to be matched with a supporting parent, please fill out the registration form below and submit it to us, either via email by hitting the submit button or print this page and mail it to us; whatever is easiest for you.  You do not have to fill out any information you are not comfortable giving us.  All information will be kept highly confidential.  One of our staff will contact you before making a match for you with one of our volunteers.
This will also get you registered on our mailing list to receive our quarterly newsletters and conference information.
